Hi Guys,
Was reading this forum last night and saw the picture from Adam about the white and striped 77Squadron Mirage.

I was in 77 Squadron when they painted that aircraft, but I can't remember what the occassion was? Maybe the 20th Anniversary?

Anyway, I slipped into making the paint scheme up for it.

I started by making a white aircraft skin from the ARDU bird supplied and then added the stripes from there.

I've had a go at a few paints before, but this one is a doozy (as Jeansey said).

Real hard to line the textures up and had to devise some tricks to find out what went where.

Anyhow, it's getting there. Thought I'd give you all a look what has transpired in the past 24 hours.

Here is my manufactured white paint kit:

and voila, 24 hours later....

The old mirage was a truly wonderful aircraft to work on and it's good to see it back in the air reliving some of it's former glory.
Oh, by the way, in case anybody was wondering what happened to them. A fair few of our old Mirages are still flying in the Pakistan Air Force.
You just can't hold a good aircraft down, even after 40 years!!!

Great work there Frank ( & Jeansy too of course)!

A3-15, 48 & 72 were painted in a commemorative scheme for the RAAF's Diamond Jubilee (60 years) in 1981. I am actually working on the complete scheme which is about 80% done. Look out for it in the next couple of days in the downloads section. :)

Cheers

Dam,
I should have read the forum more carefully. Could have saved myself a lot of time, couldn't I?
Where did you get photos of that scheme, tho? I been trawling the net for hours and haven't come up with anything other than the original that Adam posted.

I went throo my old squadron photo's and even tho I was there when those paints happened, i don't have any photos of them.

Ok, well, I got another one I was kinda keen on doing. It's the half green, half orange A3-2 ARDU bird. You aren't painting that, are you?
Just checking, mate. Don't wanna double up again.

I'll keep an eye out for your white stripers.

Here's the new paint at about 75% finished.

I'm gonna try and have it finished by this time tomorrow night, so will upload it before the weekend, all being well.

Hope someone likes it,

Frank
P.S. the colour looks a bit different on both sides, but it's just the light falling on it. I assure you, it's the same both sides.

It's all done and uploaded to the forum.

I love this aircraft and will fly the bum off it on the weekend. Having a new paint is a bit like a new aircraft and the screenies look better with a changes texture.

Frank
P.S. Here's the finished article:

Well, I didn't actually state that I was doing the Jubilee repaint, so I didn't mean to put an end to the work you have done so far. You would be spending many hours more lining up the rest of the parts of the scheme! I have a book reference of the Mirage IIIO so that has helped a lot. The repaint is almost complete, just doing the smaller details of the scheme so hopefully it will be done this weekend.

Well done on getting the ARDU version finished. ^_^

Cheers

Well, it's still not 100% finished as I had issues with some of the areas (damn mapping!). But here is a progress shot.
