  1. TonyM

  2. Tony's brother, Barry, here. Warm greetings to all the OZX members. I have been sitting here with Simon seeing the fantastic details of your send-off flight for Tony and reading the wonderful posts so many of you wrote. I knew he loved the flight-sim club and that Friday nights were something special - but I did not know nearly as much as I thought! My wife and I also had the pleasure of meeting Trevor face to face at the funeral, and later on back here where we enjoyed a toast or two to Tony, as we shared plenty of stories. Many thanks for those kind words; he was my only brother and he will be greatly missed. Baz
  3. News of TonyM's Passing

Greetings flight sim / ozx community. This is Simon, Tony's oldest son and we are posting this message through his account to thank everyone for their condolences and wishes, his wife and daughter have been reading the posts as well, and it is very moving for us to realise how much he meant to the guys out there on the forum, some of you whom he had the honour to meet and the rest the honour to talk to through TeamSpeak and fly with on FlightSim. Tony was born and grew up in New Zealand but spent most of his life in Perth, Australia, where he raised a family and worked for over 25 years in the airline industry, initially working for MMA airlines, living in the Northwest of Western Australia in towns like Port Hedland and Kununurra, then later with Ansett as an international travel consultant, in the days where they sent him all over the world. I guess he always dreamed of being a pilot as a lot of us do, and his life-long love of all things flight and aviation stayed with him. I remember his earliest forays into the world of Flight Simulators with a program called A.T.P (20-25 years ago?) which to our horror many years later on reinspection, appeared as simple dials, and lines and vectors posing as graphics. Throughout the years he always kept pace with the latest versions of FS, which has turned into a amazing virtual world of flight. But the advent of the forums / community, and things like teamspeak brought this world alive and connected great people with a shared passion of flight and aviation. The family recognises friday nights as Tony's flight nights, and this was an absolute favourite of his , in particular the planning and hosting of the flights as well as the mateship of those that joined in. In particular this brought him a great sense of relief and joy in the last 2 years when he was sick. We loved the poem that was posted and intend on reading it at the funeral service. We love the idea of the memorial flight that was posted and would love to hear or follow a report of it with any screenshots , especially of places significant to tony. Warmest Regards Carolyn , Simon and Jeni Photos 1. Helicopter joy flight on Franz Joseph Glacier, NZ 2. Tony marshalling the first Jet engine to land at Kununurra, WA in 1970. 3.
