  6. IT IS WITH A SAD HEART THAT i HAVE TO INFORM YOU ALL THAT John's wife Sue is gravely ill in hospital and doctors have informed him that the end is near. Family have flown to Tasmania to be with him, in this his darkest hour. He sent Jane and I a message last night asking us to call him asap and we had a feeling it was about Sue. This is what he said " Sue is desperately ill, and the doctor says that she is very close to the end - not responding to antibiotics at all, and her heart is giving up on her. I'll let you know later in the day. Our eldest daughter is flying in this morning, so I'm going to the hospital early, then down to pick up Samantha at Devonport." John and I are like brothers and I could not have a better Flightsim friend in this world, even though we are a continent apart. An avid Flightsim enthusiast from the very early days and a strong advocate and supporter of ORBX, he now has to face a life alone at aged 75. I am gutted that I cannot be with him right now to give him support so I ask all of you to keep him and Sue in your thoughts while he goes through this. I managed to speak to him last night and he told me that life support would be turned off soon after her grandson (who is flying to Tasmania) got the opportunity to say goodby. He also thanked me for letting everyone in the flightsim world know the situation. Kindest regards to all Des

  8. YPKG

Is there a developer here that would like to tackle Kalgoorlie Airport YPKG. One of the busiest regional centers in Western Australia. This is where I first started my flying career way back in 1981 . I remember letting out a big yell when I did my first solo (good job the mic button was not on). Unfortunately my instructor Arthur Turner (ex Spitfire pilot WW2) was killed while attempting a landing during a major thunder storm. He should not have been flying that night...but was on standby for the RFDS when one of the regular pilots "Sonny Beaumont" called in sick. Arthur stepped up to the plate, as he always did, and flew out to Warburton with the nurse on board to pick up some transfers back to Kal and on the return trip the weather turned nasty. The aircraft was coming back from the central desert late with 3 passengers and It got caught over the "golden mile" with all the head frames, It was caught under the storm and the understanding is that the aircraft got turned upside down or inverted and as the pilot was fighting to regain control and trying to right the aircraft he collided with one of the head frames over a mine shaft, I was in the bedroom that night, listening to the radio, when I heard an aircraft flying very low overhead, and it appeared to be struggling, with the pilot working the throttles trying to gain height. It didn't appear as if it was on one of the usual tracks into Kal and sounded like it was trying a go around of sorts. It came overhead again and my immediate thoughts were "that does not sound too good" That was the last I heard of it until about 30mins later when there was a breaking news flash on 6KG radio.... "RFDS plane crashes into gold mine head frame...all aboard killed"... Not quite correct as there was one survivor from that accident and it was a little child. Little did I know then that the aviation world had lost a wonderful pilot and also my instructor
  9. JayKae Happy B-day

Happy Birthday Jay. Been a while, but I am still around the traps.

  13. Talking to the older generation

Pat, you old war dog you... That story really touched me, I have met a couple like that, but to still have a valid license at that age is amazing. Hope to hear from ya some day
  14. Northam Open Day

Hey Binks, With that Easterly blowing it's hardest all day, I am not surprised there were some tight landings. Almost blew the Ice Cream van off the oval at a function in Perth today. Hey, thanks for the messages of support last week on FSE, after I came out of hospital...feeling a lot better now, bit unsteady on the feet though...but I can still fly
