    Yeah ! Tomorrow is payday. Hoping to have enough for the Dodo 206. Ground 260 5 yard buckets of wood today for the boss. Thought about flying heli's all day and can't wait for saturday to get here so I can get some flying time in. Plan on flying around the north-eastern islands looking to see if Daydream Spa has been modeled in OzX or FTX ? Anyway, late again and I need sleep as 5am comes hard and fast. Tired of living in motels and really will be glad when I find a freakin normal job that lets me go home to my wife and kids every night. :)

    Here's another of my favourite posts on the Vista Australis forums; a post that pays tribute to the wonderful, ardent poetry of Henry Lawson. Over the next few verses you will visit 'The Five Mile', a small strip that was included in VOZ release 1.5. These images depict the harsh and rugged beauty of the New England wilderness, using it to counterpoint Lawsons emotive prose.

    Reedy River

    Henry Lawson - 1896

    5MileStorms_01OZX.jpg

    Ten miles down Reedy River a pool of water lies,

    And all the year it mirrors the changes in the skies,

    And in that pool's broad bosom is room for all the stars;

    Its bed of sand has drifted o'er countless rocky bars.

    Around the lower edges where waves a bed of reeds,

    Where water rats are hidden and where the wild duck breeds;

    And grassy slopes rise gently to ridges long and low,

    Where groves of wattle flourish and native bluebells grow.

    Beneath the granite ridges the eye may just discern

    Where Rocky Creek emerges from deep green banks of fern;

    And standing tall between them, the grassy she-oaks cool

    The hard, blue-tinted waters before they reach the pool.

    5MileStorms_02OZX.jpg

    Ten miles down Reedy River one Sunday afternoon,

    I rode with Mary Campbell to that broad, bright lagoon;

    We left our horses grazing till shadows climbed the peak,

    And strolled beneath the she-oaks on the banks of Rocky Creek.

    Then home along the river that night we rode a race,

    And the moonlight lent a glory to Mary Campbell's face;

    And I pleaded for our future all through that moonlight ride,

    Until our weary horses drew closer side by side.

    Ten miles from Ryan's Crossing and five miles below the peak,

    I built a little homestead on the banks of Rocky Creek;

    I cleared the land and fenced it and ploughed the rich, red loam,

    And my first crop was golden when I brought my Mary home.

    5MileStorms_03OZX.jpg

    Now still down Reedy River the grassy she-oaks sigh,

    And the water-holes still mirror the pictures in the sky;

    And over all for ever go sun and moon and stars,

    While the golden sand is drifting across the rocky bars

    But of the hut I builded there are no traces now.

    And many rains have levelled the furrows of the plough;

    And my bright days are olden, for the twisted branches wave

    And the wattle blossoms golden on the hill by Mary's grave.

    I don't know why I always fall for it, but, despite getting perfectly good frame rates, whenever a new NVidia driver comes out, I always try it out, then have to spend an hour restoring everything. FSX always runs slower and the graphics are stuffed up. Same again tonight...notification of an nvida driver update arrived along with some windows updates. I had more restore problems than usual, so after getting everything running smoothly, sharply, and quickly again, this time I took some screenies of my driver settings.

    I have an 8800 GTS 512, and also nhancer. I'm going to post them here for anyone interested because surprisingly my best performance comes with these settings and they aren't necessarily what others recommend. For my set up though they're great, and with a q6600 quad, I'm always close to my 25fps, sharp images, and smoooth flying with generally very high scenery settings, particularly autogen.

    I thought I would start a blog detailing the progress of our first collaborative effort on the FSX default Bell 206. We started with the default textures and upgraded them to 4096 size and thanks to some great work from Gizmo and Butch with a small amount of input from myself we redid the textures from the ground up with a groundbreaking custom bump map which adds definition that has never been seen on an MSFS default helicopter. In the coming entries I hope that we can offer some tutorials on HD painting/Designing and some progress shots as we go forward with the project on our individual paints (we are doing 2 each for the package release) so read on and check out our progress.

    Cheers
